Construction Barricade Legs and Supports
Traffic Barricades, also known as safety or road barricades, are used in the Safety and Road Construction industry to control the flow of pedestrian or auto traffic in a specified area. The components of a traffic barricade usually include reflective rails supported by a galvanized metal or plastic frame.
There are three types of barricade with reflective sheeting. Type I and II barricades are foldable and smaller, typically measuring around 24 inches wide. Type III barricades are significantly larger and measure approximately 4 feet wide. In addition, there are Plain barricades that have the same components of Type I and II barricades, minus the reflective sheeting.
Type I, II, and III Construction Barricade Components
The application of the barricade angles used in Type I, II, and Plain construction barricades is different from the Type III barricade. On Type I, II, and Plain barricades, the angles are installed vertically with a hinge connecting the angles, allowing for a foldable A-frame pedestrian or traffic barricade.
Type III barricade angles run parallel to the surface, with a vertical square tube welded on the center to create a barricade leg support. Johnson Bros provides Type III barricade supports in galvanized or painted steel, either with or without the welded square tube.
Type 1, 2, and Plain construction barricades typically use 12- or 14-gauge steel while larger, Type 3 barricade stands typically use stronger 11-gauge steel to support the additional weight.

Our options for in-stock production include 11-, 12-, 13- or 14-gauge galvanized or painted steel in lengths from 23” to 72”. Select from construction barricade angles with industry standard hole patterns or without holes. We also offer other steel options, custom angle sizes, and custom hole patterns as necessary to fit your application.
Type I barricades are primarily used for pedestrian traffic and low-speed roads and typically measure 24 inches across. These foldable traffic barricades have reflective orange and white sheeting on one rail and not rated for expressways.
We manufacture Type 1 barricade angles in 11-, 12-, 13- or 14-gauge steel with an option of standard or custom lengths, angle sizes, and hole patterns.
Type II barricades share the same appearance and measurements as Type I but add reflection sheeting to the second rail. The addition of a second reflective rail provides additional visibility at night and is rated for expressways.
Our options for Type 2 barricade angles include 11-, 12-, 13- or 14-gauge steel with an option of standard or custom lengths, angle sizes, and hole patterns.
Type III barricades are much larger than Type I and II barricades and feature three reflective rails for enhanced visibility. These construction barricades measure a minimum of 4 feet across and are typically used to mark closed roadways or detours. Type 3 barricade stands do not fold. They feature two barricade supports constructed of a steel square tube welded to a barricade angle.
We roll form standard and custom Type III barricade stands in heavy 11-gauge steel or 12-, 13-, and 14-gauge if requested. The steel square tube is sized to allow a loose fit for easy setup and removal of the type 3 barricade from the legs.
